Scrappy Wish List

It's getting close to that time of year again, when new scrapbooking stuff starts coming out, and there is just so much goodness it's hard to keep track of it all, but I thought I'd share a few of the things that I can't wait to get my hands on.

1. BasicGrey Oxford Bowties. These would make the perfect hair accessories.

2. Little Yellow Bicyle SWEET SUMMERTIME When life gives you lemons paper. Doesn't this just scream summer?!?

3. BasicGrey Out of Print Yo-Yo's. Again, cute hair accessories, but also fun to add to a t-shirt.

4. Crate ToyBox Chipboard. Even though I don't have boys, these shapes are just too much fun!

5. October Afternoon Boarding Pass Tokyo Paper. I heart the B side stripes. Doesn't it make you want to break out your passport?

I've got some boxes of scrappy goodness coming this week, and hopefully that will mean I'll have lots to shart with you in the near future.

Truckin' Along

We finally got one nice evening this past week.

Zoe and my Mom got some flowers to plant in the front yard,

while my Dad and I spent some time looking through binoculars, admiring the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

This week we spent a lot of time inside because of the rain and wind.

Lots of trips to the play place, scrapbook store and Cabela's.

Zoe is becoming a big fan of the shooting games and the fish at Cabela's.

Ryan is still going strong at school and we're just waiting anxiously for Summer to come.

This week we've got our 4th anniversary and Zoe's 3rd birthday.

Lots of yummy food and celebrating.

Today, we spent the day just us 3 and everytime we do, I'm reminded how much I love our little family and how well we work together.

Crazy hair and all :)

Our Visit To Mars

Today we took a wonderful trip to another planet....actually planets!



This morning we headed down to the Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake. I knew Zoe wouldn't do well in the actual IMAX shows, but the planetarium has several other exhibits and it's free!



Zoe couldn't stop talking about all the moons (planets) and alien monsters.



Here she is on Mars.

These models were so realistic. There was a mural on the back wall and then a physical model on the floor, with a little path for the kids to walk through.

After the planetarium, we went over to the Gateway outdoor mall had some lunch at Jason's deli.

We walked around some of the shops to kill some time and we found a yummy shop,

Mountain Town Olive Oil Co.

It's exactly what it sounds like, an olive oil store.

 They had all sorts of infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars.

My favorites were the Tuscan Herbs olive oil and the Vanilla Balsamic Vinegar.

Absolutely a gem of a store. 

They offer samples of all the products and the staff was very helpful.

While Ryan and I were facsinated in the olive oil store, Aunt Natalie took Zoe to Build-a-Bear.

Zoe got to help load the fluffer machine.

And that concluded the exciting part of our Saturday :)

In other news, we found out we're expecting another niece in October

and we couln't be happier for Jen and Eric!

This week has kinda already gotten away from me.

I haven't had any scrappy time, hoping to carve some out this long weekend.

A Sunny Friday

Today was a much better day, and we actually saw some sun.



Tonight, Zoe and I went on a Mommy & Me date. We had lots of fun just hanging out about town together, and car dancing of course :)





Li,ke I said yesterday, I've been in a bit of a creative slump, but I did manage to create this layout.

I used Echo Park's new line, Splash.

I've been wanting to scrap this photo of Jamie's boys for a long time but couldn't find the right papers, until now.



Here's a close up of the handstiched frame around the picture.

I actually printed the photo of white textured cardstock to give it some extra depth and a bit of a vintage look. I miss these boys so much, I miss their mom too!

Rainy Days like These

It's been raining all week.



Usually, it's my favorite kind of weather, but for some reason it's putting me in a slump.



A creative slump, a sit-around-in-Ryan's-sweats-all-day slump, eat-junk-food slump, etc, etc.



We're on the verge of another set of changes in the Humbert household and I think we're all a bit unsettled.



Zoe is potty training and doing quite well. We've transitioned her to a twin bed. She turns 3 in a couple weeks. I'm visiting preschools in the area for Fall.



She's growing up and as much fun as it is to watch, it's hard for me to say good-bye to my little baby girl.



Ryan is deciding on what school to pursue. He hasn't enjoyed BYU-Idaho, so we're now exploring other options and electrical engineering programs.



I'm coming to terms with Utah being our home for the next few years, and searching for areas to live, residency requirements etc.



I'm kinda feeling like we're back to where we were last October, making a lot of big choices all around the same time.

I feel like another fresh start is coming and itching to make some new personal and family goals.



I think getting out of Ryan's sweats should probably be goal #1, at least for today and while we're at it, goal #2, make something yummy to eat :)

Some Easter Pages

For this page I definitely channeled my inner Lisa for this one. 

Lots of bits and pieces, I thought that was fitting since that's how it is finding Easter eggs.

I wanted to showcase Zoe's big poofy Easter dress. She adores that dress.

Who doesn't love a puffy dress?

Well it's looking like spring is here to stay.

 We brought out the bright nail polish and sunglasses this week.

Zoe turns 3 in a couple weeks, so I'm working on figuring out what type of party we're going to have.

When I asked Zoe what she wanted to eat at her party, her response was, "Cupcakes, muffins and butter."

Yep, butter.

One More Day...

There are several reasons that I scrapbook, most of them I've written here before. 

Last week, so many events, led me to reflect on my blessings and my sweet family.

Even a song on the radio, by Diamond Rio,' One More Day', which inspired this layout.

I have a sort of irrational fear of dying young and that my children will never really know me, 

which is just one of the reasons I scrapbook.

My sister, Jenni, has some 'Rules to Live By' on her blog and this is sort of an homage to that.

I wanted to write down just a few things I would make sure to tell her, if I only had one more day.

1. I love you!

2. Be kind, even when you don't feel like it.

3. Smile, a lot!

4. Don't be afraid to cry.

5. You will get your heart broken, but love anyway.

6. Save your kisses.

7. Give hugs freely.

8. Stay close to God.

9. Take chances, sometimes. :)

10. Be Yourself!

There are so many other things I hope to teach her throughout the course of her life, 

but those are the first few that came to mind.

I love being a mama!

Race for the Cure 2011 ~ Remembering Marian Baker

5 years ago last week my grandmother passed away.

She battled breast cancer on 3 separate occasions and it eventually claimed her life.

This weekend also happened to be Mother's day, I couldn't think of a better week to celebrate my grandmother's life.



She was an avid reader, quilter and an amazing friend.

She made everyone feel like they were the most special, important person.



At a luncheon after her funeral, I was talking with several of my cousins, and we all commented, that each of us thought we were her favorite. Turns out we all were.



The last time we ran in this, in 2004, my grandma greeted us at the finish line.

This time, we all wore pink signs saying, "In memory of Grandma Baker."

I miss her all the time.



We had 11 of her direct descendants participate on Saturday.

It was a great way to celebrate her life and her legacy.

I'm proud to support cancer research and I'm so grateful for the doctors who've treated my mom and all our other family members who have been affected by cancer.

After the race, we all gathered here at my parent's house and had a big luncheon. We were joined by the other family members that were unable to attend the race. I think we had about 30+ people in our house.

Lots of food, laughing and stories about Grandma B.



It's amazing how much one person can touch so many people.



Marian is survived by:

7 Children

28 Grandchildren

12 Great-Grandchildren

Polka Dot Whimsy NSD Challenge

Hey Ladies,

So sorry for getting this up late, I had a crazy weekend and then got sick at the last minute. But don't worry, you have until Friday to enter the challenge.



For my Challenge, I did an embellishment challenge. I tend to use my embellishments by themselves, so I thought it would be fun to try a build your own embellishment challenge.



I used embellishments I already had in my stash to create layered embellishments for my page.

To create these unusual flowers, I first misted some Maya Road chipboard, with Strawberry metallic mist. 

Then I wrapped it with some House of 3 twine, and secured it on the back.

I added a pop-dot to the back of the chipboard and places on some cardstock pieces from Basic Grey.

I'm really happy how they turned out.

Fun- Filled Thursday, with a side of hilarious!

This post will be epically long, but worth it! I promise.

My sister, Jenni and her family came into town late Wednesday night. Zoe was so excited to play with cousins!

Side note, we have begun hardcore potty training. 

So we're all waking up, saying hello, getting breakfast, etc. Zoe comes running in and says, "I need to go potty," turns out, she's had an accident on the floor, but I don't know this yet and run to get her into the bathroom quickly. Yeah, I slipped in the puddle and took her down with me. 

Zoe 1, Mom 0 + a severely bruised knee. 

After the incident and some showers, we headed out to Thanksgiving Point - Farm Country. We went a few weeks ago but Mom and Jenni hadn't been.

We went on more pony rides, Zoe's horse's name was Chief, she called him Cheap.

She's becoming a pro at the pony riding thing.

Noah got to go on his first pony ride ever!

They spent a majority of our trip, arguing over who got to hold the bag of popcorn.

After we left Farm Country, we had some lunch a Chick-fil-a then naps for everyone!

That night, we went down to Riverwoods at Provo to check out Blickenstaff's Candy and Toy Store.

It did not disappoint!

Another funny side note story - We parked outside Victoria's Secret and

 Zoe asked, "What store is that?"

Me: " That's the lingerie store...pause....that's the pretty panty store."

Zoe: " I want to go to the pretty panty store."

Noah: (without missing a beat) " I want to go to the pretty panty store too!"

Now onto the pictures of the store...

The decor was mostly made out of candy, such a fun place.

These are the toys Zoe picked out to show me.

and my favorite, the rubber band gun, with a scope.

They also had a dress up closet with tons of fun glasses.

And baby Eliza was having fun too...

and last but not least, there was a photobooth in the store, and we just HAD to go in.

It's been so fun to have us all back together again. 

We haven't been all together since Christmas.

We stayed until almost closing and enjoyed the warm fires among the walkways back to the car.

Last funny story - All the kids were pretty tired and cranky, so we put on some music to keep them calm.

We were listening to Allison Krauss sing, "When you say nothing at all," and just as the song is coming to a close the last line is...when you say nothing at all.....(all quiet and slow) Zoe lets out a huge belch!

Perfect Timing.

I'm sure this weekend will bring many more fun stories and pictures and I can't wait to share.

Sweet Spirit

Most toddlers are quite self-involved, including my own.

However, she is starting to come out of that a little bit and is becoming aware of other people needs.

This morning, we were in the basement and Zoe heard my mom rustling things around in the storage room. She stopped playing with her toys and ran into the storage room and asked, "Nona, do you need any help?"



Then she spent the next few minutes helping my mom build a little bed for her cousin who is coming to visit tonight. After she finished with the bed, she ran back in to the playroom and said, "Mom, I helped Nona make a bed for baby 'liza!"



She was so happy.



It was a proud mom moment for me, I'm glad all the talking/teaching/reminding is working.



A reminder to make an effort all the time, because she is watching/listening/learning.

Time Flies....

Wow, this weekend just disappeared!

Friday night we attended a production of "Oliver" at Ben's school.

 He played in the pit orchestra and they sounded amazing.

But there were a few interesting audience members who made the evening interesting.

The first guy behind us, acted like he was at a monster truck rally and hooted after ever performance.

They guy in front of us was belly laughing at about a 10 second delay, even the kids in the pit could hear him.

But overall, it was an enjoyable evening, we ended with some delicious gelato.

The rest of the weekend was filled with family dinners, chatting and laughing, some shopping and scrapping.



Last night, we all sat around the TV, as I'm guessing a lot of people did, listening to the breaking news of the death of Osama Bin Laden. How thankful I am that he was finally caught and justice was served for those families who have lost loved ones as a result of his actions.

I am so grateful to all those men and women who work tirelessly to keep us safe.
